Erich Mendelsohn’s Einsteinturm

With this research interview, I consider how a minor strain of architectural modernism emerged with scientific observation and empirical study in solar physics and biology. One of my case-studies will consider how relativity theory impacted the design of the Einsteinturm, located in Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam. Constructed to house a solar telescope, its design points to changes in design practices rooted in new theories of time, precipitated by a range of technical inventions.
